Spain’s labor market continues to become more internationalized. In August 2026, the Spanish Social Security system registered an average of 3,551,759 foreign workers, approximately 482,500 more than the previous year. Foreign workers currently represent 15.9% of total Social Security affiliation in Spain. These numbers are significant for companies planning their workforce strategies.
International recruitment in Spain is no longer confined to traditionally migrant-dependent industries. Foreign professionals are present in many sectors, including construction, technology, professional services, healthcare, logistics, and others, where Spanish companies continue to compete for talent.
This means that, for HR and Global Mobility teams, immigration strategy should be integrated into workforce planning rather than being treated as an administrative step after recruitment has already taken place.
The question should not be so simple. «Can we obtain a work permit for this candidate?»
It should be: Which immigration route best supports the position, the employee’s career, and the company’s long-term workforce strategy?
